11/5/2023 0 Comments Nick schwartz at penlandHe’ll have you looking forward to the conference softball tournament every spring and basketball tournament in the fall. This’ll lead you to meeting Kyle Schwartz, who works for the Ohio Valley Conference. They only have your best interest in mind. They’re all good people and will help you learn and grow as not only a college student but a person to. Daniel Porter and Tyler Brown, who you aren’t sure if y’all are actually related or not, will join the sports information department, too. You’ll end up working for them for several years and you’ll enjoy every minute of it. You’ll be on your way.īy this point, you’ll have been working with Josh Underwood, Greg Seitz and Tony Schimt for a year or two now, so don’t be upset when things fall through during the fall of 2012. You and he will establish #TeamStar and make it a brand. But don’t worry, the work you and Brandon will put in will be unprecedented. When you read that, you’ll have to sit down and take a few minutes because Nick was one of your first mentors. You’ll be out bowling when Nick tweets he just filed his final story. That friendship you strike up with Nick Birdsong will transition to Brandon Miller when Nick leaves The Anniston Star. Take a seat because this may blow your mind … you’re going to become a writer - that’s how you’re going to impact people’s lives. Oh, just keep Mason away from tiki torch so he doesn’t set the grass on fire. Stories from Mason’s going away party will still be told, because it was that amazing. (Fair warning, I’m writing this in 2018 and you, Matt and Sean still listen to those sad songs for fun.) If y’all aren’t listening to Wiz, DJ Khaled’s “I’m on One” or Ace Hood’s “Hustle Hard (Remix),” then it’ll be depressing country songs. You won’t know it at the time, but Wiz Khalifa’s “No Sleep” will have come out just a few months ago, which is good because you, Matt Penland, Kadeem Hubbard, Sean Jones and Mason Deline will all but have that song on repeat during the summer of 2011. Remember that elementary school field trip when you were given a certificate that said, “Most Adventurous?” Boy, do I have a story for you.
